Nothing. There is no special form letter or secret way to get legit items removed from your credit report. Basically, they will use the old “dispute everything and hope the creditor doesn’t verify to the credit bureau”. Sometimes this works but legitimate items may just return later when the creditor updates.
Use the money to pay off your debts instead. Get a copy of your credit report and start with the newest derogatory item and work back to the oldest. The older the item, the less impact on your score. If the debt is over 3 years old, offer 25%; 2 or 3 years old, offer 50%; less than 2 years old, offer 75%. Lump sum gets the best deals.
If you have single entry items like cell phone, utility, or medical bills, try to get delete for pay agreements. This will help your score. Regularly reported items like credit cards, delete for pay will only get the collection agency item removed. The original creditor’s charge off will remain.
Get any settlement agreement in writing and keep it, along with your proof of payment, forever. Do not give them direct access to your bank account.
Paying off old debt won’t increase your score (unless you get the item deleted). The damage is already done. However, creditors look at your whole report, not just the score. Paid old debt looks much better than unpaid.
Credit repair companies make promises that they can remove items from credit reports once they are paid. But this is not possible. Even IF it was, credit repair cos. have no guarantee that it can happen. But it actually can’t because of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. So-called credit repair cos. are a waste of money.
If you can’t pay your bills with how they are right now, you should contact consumer credit counseling, debt consolidation, or debt management. Each of those are different from each other and different from credit repair. A reputable company will tell you that all they can do is help you pay off the debt, and with that, your credit will improve over time.
